Yoshino Flowering Cherry
The Yoshino Cherry Tree, ‘Prunus x Yedoensis,’ is an ornamental cherry tree that is specifically bred for its flowers and fragrance, as opposed to its fruit. It produces white to pink clusters of beautiful, almond scented flowers. The blooms will appear on the wood before the leaves emerge. This is an exceptionally showy tree when backed by evergreens. It makes a fantastic border or mass planting, and is also commonly grown as a specimen tree. This is the primary cherry tree grown in the Washington Tidal Basin, and can be seen flowering throughout the US Capitol grounds and around the Library of Congress.
