Balsam Fir
The Balsam Fir, ‘Abies balsamea,’ has very similar characteristics to the Fraser fir tree and exhibits a relatively dense, dark green, pyramidal crown with a slender, spire-like tip. Its scientific name of balsamea is a very ancient word that comes from the many resinous blisters found in the bark. The Balsam fir thrives in cooler climates and will demand abundant soil moisture and a humid atmosphere. Balsam firs also make up a large percentage of Christmas trees.
